Motorcyclist pleads guilty to fleeing

September 17, 2009|By Fred Petke

A Monticello man pleaded guilty to having no operator's license and fleeing or evading police charges from a pursuit that ended in downtown Winchester.

Mitchell Glenn Bell, 33, is also facing charges in Madison County, where the pursuit began on June 25 on Interstate 75.

In Clark District Court Wednesday, Bell was fined for not having an operator's license and was sentenced to 180 days in jail for second-degree fleeing or evading police. He also received a pre-trial diversion for a no insurance charge, which will be reviewed later in the year.

Reckless driving, license to be in possession and expired registration charges were all dismissed as part of the plea agreement. Charges are still pending in Madison County, Bell's attorney told District Judge Earl-Ray Neal.

The pursuit originated on I-75 in Madison County when Richmond Police received a complaint of a speeding motorcycle. Officers terminated the chase for safety reasons.

A Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement officer spotted the motorcycle on Ky. 627 in Clark County and clocked it at 110 mph and followed it. Winchester Police were notified and pursued the motorcycle into downtown Winchester, where Bell crashed and was arrested.
