HARRODSBURG — After many delays, Eddy Montgomery, singer of "Something To Be Proud Of," can expect the doors to swing open soon on his new steakhouse that definitely is a jewel for Harrodsburg's economy.

An official date hasn't been set for the opening of the Eddie Montgomery Steakhouse, but General Manager Vince Royalty is hoping for mid-December.

Royalty said he will have an exact date set in mid to late October.

Officials and construction workers broke ground on the steakhouse in April 2008. Now, more than a year later, the steakhouse is beginning to look complete.

Royalty said fixtures and kitchen equipment are being installed and that sound and lighting equipment will be installed during the next three weeks. Chairs and tables will be the next to arrive.

Employee training will take place in November.

Tracy Montgomery said the steakhouse is taking applications for all positions. Interviews for management positions will take place in the next couple of weeks.

The steakhouse will initially employ about 200 people, Royalty said. Interested applicants can go to www.eddiemontgomerysteakhouse.com/jobs.html.

The steakhouse will be able to seat 425 people but has a capacity of 1,400. Tracy Montgomery said this is because the tables might be cleared out for concerts.

The two-story steakhouse includes a stage for performances, which Eddie Montgomery hopes will feature local talent as well as some bigger names.

The steakhouse is in the Skylar's Landing development on the U.S. 127 bypass.

Even though its not open yet, the steakhouse already is decorated for Christmas, and merchandise has arrived at the gift shop. The gift shop, "Totally Tracy," will feature more than Eddie Montgomery and Montgomery Gentry specialty items, including funny hats, notecards and gift items, Tracy Montgomery said.

A restaurant isn't the only plan for Skylar's Landing. Tracy Montgomery said there are plans for a hotel, as well as other attractions, one of which could be announced in two or three weeks.

Royalty is anxious for the restaurant to open so the public can see the workmanship.

Tracy Montgomery also is excited for the opening. "We can't wait to get open," she said. "People will see why it has taken so long."
