The George Rogers Clark girls' soccer team ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-0 shutout over Paris Sunday.

The win secured a third-place finish for Clark in the district. Bourbon is the top seed, followed by Harrison County. District play begins next week at the Cardinal Soccer Complex.

Clark coach Bill Kirk was pleased to see his team get back on track following the losing skid.

It's nice to get back to the winning ways," he said. "The early goal allowed us to settle into a rhythm and from then on, we controlled the game."

Becca Curtis had a pair of scores and scored the first goal for Clark at 5:23 on an assist from Mariah Pohl.

Pohl connected at 40:31 and Curtis added another score at the 51:54 mark. Hillary Osborne completed the scoring at 63:40.

Kirk said the second goal put the guests away.

"Once we got the second goal soon after the restart, the result was not in doubt," he said. "If we can play this well consistently over the next few games, then we will be in a good position going into district play."

Kirk said his team remains a work in progress.

"Our finishing was better, but still needs a little work, but this team has a good work ethic and a desire to succeed," he said. "I'm pleased with the performance."

The junior varsity team finished runner-up in the Rachel Sutherland Memorial Saturday.

The Lady Cards handed Grant County an 8-0 loss as Lauren Woosley scored three goals and Cora Kerber added two for Clark. Kirstin Logan, Shelby Detring and Megan McClure added one each to pace the Lady Cards' offense.

"We came together as a team an put together a real solid game," Clark junior varsity coach Coke Shukla said. "Our offense and defense both played well."

In a game played Friday, Clark rolled to a 10-0 win over Garrard County. Woosley had a hat trick to lead the team's offensive showing. Kerber added two scores, while Logan, Te'Rehya Lewis, Courtney White, Cathryn Banker and Jessica Caristo each scored for the Lady Cards.
