Ryan Hunter receives Eagle Scout Award

Ryan Hunter, 15, of Winchester, received his Eagle Scout Award in an Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony Aug. 22 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church.

The award was presented by Clay Rose, scoutmaster of Troop 56, sponsored by Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

Donald Parker of Troop 56 served as master of ceremonies. Assistant scoutmaster Chuck Bast, and the scouts of Troop 56 presented the Scout Law Candle Ceremony and the presentation of the colors.

Father Jacob Kurian of Saint Joseph Catholic Church offered the invocation and benediction.

Other participants in the ceremony were Mayor Ed Burtner, Eagle Scout Dr. Thomas Burchett and Phyllis Meyer.

For his Eagle Scout Project, Ryan organized and led a team of volunteers in the placement of the flag and flagpole at Heritage Park, along with stepping stones, graciously provided by Gate Precast Co. and additional landscaping.

Ryan earned his Eagle rank in April at age 14.

Ryan is currently a sophomore at George Rogers High School and involved in JROTC and Clark County Fire Department Explorer Post 444.

He is the son of Eric and Candace Hunter, grandson of Clair and Arline Hunter, all of Winchester, and the grandson of the late Jim and Linda Cooper and the surrogate grandson of Jerry and Geri Carra of Grayson.
