The man who backed into the Winchester Police chief's truck in a stolen car was indicted on seven charges Thursday afternoon.

Ebb C. Duhamel, 22, of Ohio, was arrested on Aug. 19 after a 45-minute foot pursuit and search by Winchester Police. Chief Kevin Palmer said he was off duty and in his personal vehicle running errands when another vehicle backed into him. Palmer said he did not identify himself as an officer, but asked to exchange information with the driver while waiting for the police to arrive.

The driver, later determined to be Duhamel, sped away and turned into an apartment complex, where he dumped the car and fled on foot. He hid in a barn before being captured by police. Through the investigation, officers determined that the car Duhamel was driving was reported stolen in Ohio. A handgun found in the car was also stolen.

Police also said he tried to jump from a second-story window at the police station following his arrest.

Duhamel was indicted for receiving stolen property under $10,000, receiving stolen property (firearm), convicted felon in possession of a handgun, leaving the scene of an accident, second-degree fleeing or evading police, attempted second-degree escape and second-degree persistent felony offender.

The grand jury also indicted a Winchester man from running from court bailiffs on his way to the jail last month.

Jonathan Crowe, 20, was in Clark Circuit Court on Sept. 10 for a hearing in his first-degree robbery case. The judge remanded Crowe to jail, but he ran from bailiffs outside the courthouse. Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue said Crowe was not handcuffed and the bailiff had not asked for a third pair of cuffs to transport other prisoners back to jail.

Crowe ran on foot through downtown Winchester, past the social services office and across Buckner Street, where he was captured by detectives from the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

Crowe was charged with second-degree escape, second-degree fleeing or evading police and third-degree criminal mischief.

The grand jury also returned the following indictments.
