A list of participatory sporting events in and around the area:

BASKETBALL

Sunday — Youth clinic at Salvation Army Community Center, 519 S. Fourth St. Clinic 10 a.m.-noon for boys grades 6-8. Advance registration encouraged. Call (859) 236-4473.

Through Oct. 31 — Danville-Boyle County Parks & Recreation youth league registration open at Davis Recreation Center. Boys basketball for grades K-12, girls basketball for grades K-7, cheerleading for grades K-6. Fee $40 basketball, $45 cheerleading. Call (859) 238-1233.

GOLF

Oct. 17 — Paintsville baseball scramble at Paintsville Golf Club. Calcutta 9 a.m., scramble begins 10 a.m. Captain's choice format includes drawing for teams. Fee $50. Call Walt Crace at (606) 793-1202.

RUNNING

Saturday — The Big Day 5K at Millennium Park. Begins 9 a.m. Fee $25, $15 1-mile fun run/walk. Call (859) 238-6986.

Oct. 31 — Jack-O-Lantern Jog in Corbin. 4-mile race. Runners encouraged to wear Halloween costumes. Call Bill Hanson at (606) 524-2241 or e-mail hanson@t3web.net.

SOFTBALL

Saturday — Nicholasville Knockouts 14-and-under team tryout in Nicholasville. Tryout begins 10 a.m. at 100 Park Drive. Players must bring birth certificate, proof of insurance, glove, bat and sliding pants. Free. Call (859) 885-6361.
