Lowther wins retail award



Charles E. Lowther II, manager of Southern States Cooperative, Inc., Boyle County Branch won the President's Operating Excellence Award. Only 46 service managers from Southern States' 23-state territory earned this award, which first was given in 1987.

The awards are based on performance for the past fiscal year, which ended on June 30 for all service locations. All Southern States managers are eligible to win whose standards equal or surpass the high standards for return on capital, net profit and productivity.

Republic Bank's We CARE Award honors volunteers



Bluegrass Community and Technical College was named as the 2009 winner of Republic Bank's We CARE Award in the Education and Public Works category. The award was presented to the college on Sept. 22 at the Griffin Gate Marriott in Lexington.

The award recognized BCTC as a top organization that has demonstrated what CARE represents: Community Activity Recognition Enterprise. At BCTC, many faculty members incorporate community service participation in academic curriculum or host community events at the college.

Throughout the year, faculty and staff volunteer in more than 40 local non-profit organizations, including United Way of the Bluegrass, Reforest the Bluegrass, Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program and Wig Out — an organization started by a BCTC faculty member who was being treated for cancer.

Centre for Health & Rehab to hold costume parade



Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation will host a parade of costumes and a community trick-or-treat night from 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at 642 N. 3rd St., Danville. The costume parade will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Crawford wins national award



Mark Crawford, general manager of Fazoli's in Danville, recently was inducted into Fazoli's President's Club, which recognizes the company's top managers.

A Danville resident, Crawford joined Fazoli's in 1995. He took over the Danville restaurant in October 2005. Crawford was one of just two Fazoli's managers inducted into the President's Club at Fazoli's annual conference held this month in Charleston, S.C.

He was recognized for his high standards in food quality, service and cleanliness, as well as his leadership abilities.

Crawford participates in the Danville community by serving as a Cub Scout leader, and supporting school teams and fire departments.

Crawford and his wife Suzanne have three children who are active in sports. He is retired from the Kentucky Air National Guard and holds a bachelor's degree in restaurant management from Western Kentucky University.

Local Realtors attended conference



Five local realtors attended the Kentucky Association of Realtors Convention and Expo held Sept. 29 through Oct. 1 in Louisville.

In addition to attending educational seminars, the realtors attended an exposition offering the latest technology in real estate marketing.

The local Realtors who attended the conference were Nina Kirkland, Linda Sparrow, Mark Dexter, Sissy Fowler and Shirley Culton.

Heartland invites costumed pets



Heartland Veterinary Hospital is inviting pet owners and their pets to participate in Heartland's Heartwarming at 10 a.m. Oct. 30. Heartland Veterinary Hospital is looking for costumed pets to visit with seniors of McDowell Place of Danville. Prizes will be awarded for costumes.
