Women's diagnostic center recognized for excellence

October 26, 2009|By Bob Flynn

When Clark Regional Medical Center's Diagnostic Center for women opened in February it was touted as one of the finest state-of-the-art facilities available anywhere.

In the last six months, those claims have proven to be right on the money as the center has provided services to local women, that at one time, could only be found in larger metropolitan hospitals.

The quality of service the center has provided gained statewide recognition earlier this month when it became one of six centers, of the 163 Breast Centers in Kentucky, to be designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.

"Being recognized as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence is a significant achievement, not only locally, but also state-wide and nationally," said Dr. Ben McQuade, Clark Regional radiologist. " This is something that everyone who supports Clark Regional should be very excited about."

By awarding the facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in all the College's voluntary breast imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.

Clark Regional's Diagnostic Center for Women offers the latest in digital technology close to home in a comfortable atmosphere. And since all services are located in one facility, same-day services are available.

"Together with their health care provider, we can assure patients that Clark Regional is a premier provider of comprehensive breast imaging services offered at the highest standards of the radiology profession. Our staff realizes that comfort, convenience, accurate results and a caring environment are important in the fight against breast cancer," said Dr. William Cooper.

The breast imaging services at Clark Regional are fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that this facility has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.

The American College of Radiology, headquartered in Reston, Va., is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs for focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology, as well as the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
