UK Football: Corey Peters SEC Defensive Lineman of Week

November 17, 2009|By LARRY VAUGHT

LEXINGTON — Senior tackle Corey Peters had one of his best games in Kentucky's 24-13 win at Vanderbilt last week and has been named Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week for his effort.

He had five tackles, including 1.5 for losses, and a quarterback pressure. Both his tackles for loss led to Vanderbilt punts and his quarterback pressure forced an incomplete pass.

His play helped the Wildcats limit Vanderbilt to just 209 total yards, the lowest total UK had allowed against a SEC opponent since 1996. The Wildcats held the Commodores to no points, one first down and 31 yards in the second half.

"Corey Peters has been consistently good for us all season," Kentucky coach Rich Brooks said Monday.

McIntosh honored: Kicker Craig McIntosh has been named the National Kickoff Specialist of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards for his play at Vanderbilt.

The College Football Performance Awards are a scientific evaluation of game-day achievements. McIntosh, a walk-on, kicked off five times with a career-high three touchbacks. His other two kickoffs forced the receiver to catch the ball near the sideline and helped the coverage unit contain Warren Norman, who had returned three kickoffs for touchdowns this season. Norman was limited to a 19-yard average on his two returns. The average field position after Kentucky kickoffs was inside the 22-yard line.

McIntosh, a redshirt freshman, played at Lexington Christian.

Kickoff set: Kentucky's final regular-season game against Tennessee Nov. 28 in Commonwealth Stadium will kick off at 7 p.m. The game will be shown on ESPNU.
