H1N1 claims Boyle Countian

November 20, 2009

Boyle County Health Department is reporting the county's first H1N1 flu-related death.

A Boyle County individual died from H1N1, or swine flu, Public Health Director Roger Trent said today.

The person was in their 30s and had underlying health conditions, Trent said, but he couldn't say specifically when the person died or if the individual was male or female.

"The loss of any Boyle County resident is always a tragedy," Trent said in a press release. "We extend our sincerest sympathies to this individual's family."

Kentucky is now reporting 30 deaths related to H1N1.

The Boyle County Health Department continues to work closely with state officials to obtain H1N1 flu vaccine and to get the vaccine out to the target populations that the CDC has recommended receiving the vaccine first. Those target groups are pregnant women, people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months old, health-care workers, children and young adults 6 months to 24 years old and people 25 to 64 years old with chronic health problems.

The vaccine is free, and the patient will receive an immunization card. To check on vaccine availability before coming in, call the health department at (859) 236-2053.
