December 02, 2009|By Tyler Young

The Nicholasville Police Department is looking for a suspect in an armed robbery committed Tuesday night.

According to a press release from the NPD, a man came into the Cash In Hand business at 709 N. Main St. in Nicholasville around 6 p.m. Tuesday armed with a handgun. He demanded money from an employee, who complied and gave the man an undetermined amount of cash. The suspect fled in an unknown direction on foot.

The suspect is described as a white male; 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a dark-colored hoodie sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head, and he had some type of clothing over his face, hiding it from the employee.

The employee who handed over the cash was the only one working at the time, according to NPD Officer Kevin Grimes.

Tuesday's holdup is the second robbery of a Nicholasville check cashing business in eight days.

Pete's Check Cashing on South Main Street was robbed Nov. 23. The suspect in that crime had a similar description and also implied that he had a weapon.

According to Grimes, there have been no arrests made in that robbery.

"It's too early to tell yet (whether the two crimes are related)," Grimes said. "But obviously there are some similarities."

The NPD is asking that anyone with information on either of the robberies call the department at 885-9468.
