Prep Basketball: Burgin sweeps

Logan Hill scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds Tuesday as Burgin opened its season with a 59-35 win in Louisville against Portland Christian (0-1).

Trenton Claunch scored 17 points and had nine rebounds and three steals while Jon Beckerson had 11 points, seven boards, six steals and four assists and Tim Riddle had two steals and scored four points.

Burgin led 19-8 after the first quarter, but Portland Christian cut the lead to six before the Bulldogs opened up 32-22 lead at the half. Burgin led 49-29 after the third quarter.

The Bulldogs were 22-for-52 from the floor, hit 13 of 17 free throws, had 11 assists and turned the ball over 14 times.

"We had a lot of easy looks missed, but all in all a pretty decent shooting night," Burgin coach Don Irvine said.

Girls

Burgin 60, Portland Christian 19 — At Louisville, Hannah Harley scored 16 points and Shavon Majors added 15 as the Bulldogs (1-0) rolled over Portland Christian (0-1).

Burgin, which went 14-for-19 at the free throw line, led 10-0 after the first quarter and 35-1 at the half. Taylor Sanders tossed in 14 points for Burgin.
