Mercer courthouse ducts may contain air pollution

December 09, 2009

HARRODSBURG — The Mercer County Fiscal Court awarded a bid to J.W.I. Restoration in Winchester to clean out the ducts in the courthouse.

Tim Peters, with Peters Construction Co., said the duct work will reveal to the court what is inside the ducts.

"I'm pretty confident it's air pollution in that duct," he said.

Peters said only one out of 11 ducts are having problems. Though Peters suspects air pollution, he said no one will be sure until J.W.I does its cleaning work.

J.W.I bid $1,263.50 for the project.

In other business, Judge-Executive Milward Dedman updated the court on the progress of the Judicial Center. He said construction is about to enter a phase where progress on the foundation will be seen.

Dedman also said he has had a lot of interest from the community about the joint Human Rights Commission with Harrodsburg and Burgin. The fiscal court gets to appoint five members to the 11-member commission.

Dedman said he plans to meet with Magistrate Alvis Johnson to discuss who the county wants to appoint.

"I was pleasantly surprised at the positive interest," Dedman said.

The commission can't be formed until the Burgin City Council approves the second reading of the ordinance at its next meeting in January.
