LOUISVILLE — B.J. Hogue accomplished her final goal on Thursday.

The Casey County junior had already won a regional championship and thrown 100 feet in the discus.

But she threw her best Thursday, finishing third with a throw of 104 feet, 1 inch at the Class AA State Track and Field Championships at the University of Louisville.

“It was crazy, I didn’t really think about it much,” said Hogue, who also competed in the shot put. “I just told myself I was going to get up there and do what I knew I could. This was the first year I have been to state in throws. I’ve always been running.”

Her teammate, junior Nicole Coffman ran one of her best times in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 1 minute, .06 seconds and placing fourth. And even after placing third last year, Coffman was not complaining.

“It was actually better than I thought I did because I was behind them,” Coffman said. “They were quick, they were faster than they were last year. I’m very pleased with how I ran.”

Rockcastle County’s Michaela Hunter defended her title with a time of 58.94 seconds. That time that surprised Coffman, but it was why she knew she had to run one of her best races.

“I figured it would have to be around the time I got, because I’d only been under a minute once before,” she said.
