Presidents scholar

Western Kentucky University: Justine Missik of Boyle County has been designated a President’s Scholar for the spring 2010 semester. To be selected for this honor, one must compile an academic standing of 3.8 or better out of a possible 4.0 for the semester just completed. Missik attends the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science at WKU. She is the daughter of Christine and John Missik of Boyle County.


Spalding University: Michelle Murray Zaman of Danville received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology on June 5. She is the daughter of Gary and Nancy Murray of Plain Dealing, La., and Karen Rich Pierce of Bossier City, La., and mother of Abagail and Sabian Zaman.

The University of the Cumberlands, Williamsburg, Ky.: Andrew Steven Bertram graduated May 8 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Religion.

Graduating on the Dean’s list, Andrew was also honored as a Hutton Scholar, an award given to students with 200 or more hours of community service. He was a member of Alpha Beta Zeta, the University of the Cumberlands chapter of Theta Alpha Kappa, a national honor society for religion. He was also awarded the Terry A. Roberts Ministerial Scholarship. Roberts is an alumnus of UC who currently serves in the military.


As a member of the UC Baseball team, the Mid-South Conference awarded Academic All-Conference to Andrew the past two years. This is for student athletes that make a significant contribution to their studies as well as contributions to the team.

Andrew will attend The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville in the fall to pursue his Master’s Degree with a focus on Student and Family Ministry.

Andrew is the son of Steve and Anita Bertram of Danville. His grandparents are Bill and Juanita Anderson of Danville and George and Rosa Bertram of Stanford.

National College, Danville Campus: A graduation ceremony was held May 27 with guest speaker Col. Rodney Hayes. The invocation was given by instructor (and pastor of Shakertown Baptist Church) Joseph Smith. Graduating students received their degrees and diplomas during the ceremony.

Director of Health Care Education Virginia Patterson pinned the students from all medical fields with their completion of program pins, and recognized 35 medical assisting graduates who successfully completed the Registered Medical Assistant certification test.

The following students were given awards for their achievements at National College: The E.M. Coulter Award was presented to Lisa Dickerson; Joseph E. Hurn Award to Patricia Cabrera and Rosa Stuart; Mary P. McGurn Award to Mary Abrams; M.A. Smythe Award to Rosa Stuart; the Achievement Award to Wendy Jones; Leadership Award to Cara Dyehouse; and the Alumni Hall of Achievement Award to Mike Sutton.
