The Community Art Center continues its monthly “Lunch with the Arts” series Wednesday as it welcomes Lydia DiMartino-Ellis for a special performance, ”Lady Plays the Blues.”
DiMartino-Ellis will be playing favorite blues and jazz standards such as “St. Louis Blues,” “Blue Bossa,” “Autumn Leaves,” and more.
DiMartino-Ellis recently was named conductor of Danville’s Advocate Brass Band, which will be performing at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in October.
About the artist
DiMartino-Ellis is the library media specialist at Bate Middle School, where she is “instrumental” in advancing arts and humanities studies.
She is the director of both the new Bate Jazz Ensemble and Rhythm and Percussion (RAP) Ensemble and is director/producer of The “Meth” OD, an original theatrical production created by Bate Middle and Danville High School students that addresses the dangers of methamphetamine use, production, sale, and its role in creating a destructive drug culture in communities and its schools.
The final production has been performed at Danville High School, National Methamphetamine Awareness Day at the capitol in Frankfort, the Kentucky Crime Prevention Coalition Youth Prevention Conference, and the Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference.
