Max Meckes and Christian Gateskill-Fuqua scored two goals each Tuesday night to lead the Danville boys to a 7-0 victory over Monticello in the first round of the 15th/16th Region All “A” Classic at Somerset.

Danville (2-0) dominated the game, taking 52 shots and allowing Monticello (1-2) only three.

Ethan Hobson, Jake Winkler and Drafton Peck also scored for the Admirals, who will play a semifinal game Thursday night in Somerset for the right to advance to Saturday’s regional championship in the small-school tournament.

They didn’t score until the 22nd minute, when Gateskill-Fuqua got an unassisted goal, and they didn’t score again for the balance of the first half. Hobson, Winkler and Gateskill-Fuqua all scored in the first 5 1/2 minutes of the second half to give Danville a 4-0 lead.

Winkler had two assists, and Hobson, Gateskill-Fuqua, Jake Davis and Damir Karapandzic had one each.

Monticello goalkeeper Francisco Alfonso made 27 saves, while Danville’s Matt Oster had two.

East Jessamine 3, Boyle County 0 — At Danville, No. 7 East Jessamine (3-0) made the most of its five shots to defeat Boyle (1-2).

Boyle got twice as many shots but couldn’t find the net, even after East Jessamine went a man down after one of the Jaguars was ejected in the 32nd minute.

“We had several chances in the closing minutes of the first half from set pieces, but were not able to find the back of the net,” Boyle coach Cris McMann said. “We looked good at the beginning of the second half. East Jessamine had to sit back due to being a man down and we were able to keep it in their end most of the time. But they packed in their defense and shut down all of our attack. We were unable to get off many good chances.”

East Jessamine, which has allowed only one goal in three games, held a 2-0 halftime lead after scoring in the 16th and 38th minutes, and the Jaguars added an insurance goal off a rebound following a corner kick in the 59th minute.

Boyle suffered its second straight shutout loss.

“We lacked intensity and aggressiveness for a lot of the game tonight. We resorted to a lot of long balls,” McMann said.
