The East Jessamine baseball team finished its 2010 campaign with a 27-10 record, the best record in the school’s history.

Thursday, Aug. 19, the team reaped some more benefits as a fifth player from the squad signed to play at the collegiate level.

Center fielder Jake Adams was the latest Jaguar to sign his name on the dotted line, and his school of choice was Pikeville College.

Adams joins teammates Dylan Poulin, Kyle Mefford and Kyle Lamb as future Pikeville College Bears.

“I’m pretty excited because I get to go with all my friends,” Adams said. “I know it’s a little late when I decided, but I realized that I was going to miss it too much.”

East coach Jimmy Hill said Adams’ game would translate well to the college level.

“He’s going to be successful there; he was a really good center fielder for us,” Hill said. “He started for three years, and he’s in the top 10 in a lot of offensive categories here at the school. His strength is his defense, but he really developed as an offensive player, and he’s going to be a successful college player in Pikeville.”

Hill was beaming with pride as another of his players decided to take his game to the next level.

“We had the best team in school history last year,” he said. “We had four go to Pikeville and another one sign as well.”

Hill said Pikeville is looking to upgrade their program and feels his players will go a long way in helping the Bears.

“Coach (Robert) Taylor came here looking for kids on successful programs, and he got four good ones here at East,” Hill said. “It’s a package kind of deal; kids are doing that today by going with their friends, and they’re going to be successful up there; he’s building a strong program.”

Hill said not only is Pikeville getting another outstanding baseball player, but the school is also getting a solid classroom performer.

“He’s a good student, I had him in class,” he said. He’s a teacher’s aide and he’s just a real good student. He’s a ‘Yes sir, no sir’ type of kid. He’s a good player but an even better person. They’re lucky to have him, and kids like him.”
