Chamber president Karen Haley leaving post

August 25, 2010|By Rachel Parsons

After nearly a year and a half on the job, Karen Haley has resigned from her position as president of the Winchester-Clark County Chamber of Commerce.

“I truly enjoyed meeting and working with the many chamber businesses and individuals that make Winchester-Clark County the beautiful and vibrant place that it is. This chamber will continue to foster business growth and success,” Haley said in a prepared statement.

The chamber board received Haley’s resignation Monday afternoon.

Chamber board chairman Keith Roberts said in a press release that the board’s executive committee will handle all operations until a replacement is named.

“We wish her the best in the future and appreciate her service to the chamber and the community over the past 16 months,” Roberts said in a prepared statement.

Haley took over chamber leadership in March 2009, after former chamber director Charmagne Castle resigned in September 2008, citing health concerns.

Prior to coming to Winchester, Haley had served as chamber president and CEO in Wilmington, Ohio, for 13 years.

A press release cites Haley’s various accomplishments in Clark County, including creating a new chamber website, creating new city and county street maps and a new community profile publication, which is slated to debut this fall.

“Much of my time has been creating management policy and procedures while building a more comprehensive membership database. I’m proud to say, we are at a point of better efficiency and accountability in assessing our members and their needs, which will bring us to fiscal solvency,” Haley said in a prepared statement.

Haley told board members that she plans to explore different career opportunities.

Roberts said in a phone interview that there is no real timeline in place for finding a replacement.

“We just want to take the time to make the right decision. … We want to really get the right fit for the membership of the Chamber of Commerce,” Roberts said.
