WAYNESBURG — Police have arrested five people believed to be involved in a home invasion and robbery in Lincoln County early Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Curt Folger said Tracy McMahan, 21, and Gary Griffin, Christopher Leek, Chad Oaks and Kathy Murphy, all 25, were responsible for the crime at the home of Susie McMahan at 595 Shake Rag Road near Waynesburg.

Folger said two or three people, clad in dark clothes and ski masks, knocked on Susie McMahan’s door about 1 a.m. and forced their way in when she opened it. The sheriff said Susie McMahan is Tracy McMahan’s stepgrandmother.

Griffin allegedly held Susie McMahan at gunpoint with a fake gun, described as a training assault rifle, while Tracy McMahan went through the residence. The group made off with a purse, including a checkbook.

Witnesses described the vehicle used in the robbery as a blue Ford Mustang.

Acting on a tip, Folger located the car Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot at Stanford Walmart. Along with state police, Folger set up surveillance and swarmed the vehicle when Tracy McMahan and Murphy came out of the store about 4 p.m.

Folger said police next arrested Griffin, who had an outstanding warrant, and Oaks at the same residence before rounding up Leek at a separate location.

Authorities recovered the checkbook from the purse and located the clothing used in the robbery.

The suspects are in the Lincoln County Regional Jail.

Griffin, Leek, Oaks and Murphy are charged with first-degree robbery, while Tracy McMahan is charged with first-degree robbery and burglary.
