The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Kentucky State Police, arrested four Stanford and one Lancaster resident Tuesday in connection with a home invasion robbery that occurred earlier that day. Sheriff Curt Folger said that the suspects are believed to have robbed a home at 595 Shake Rag Rd. in Waynesburg around 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Early in the day, Folger said that Deputy Sim Thacker was investigating the case and that he had a pretty good idea who was involved. The suspects knocked on the door of the rural home at one in the morning, and when the homeowner answered, four suspects entered the home forcibly. All of the suspects were wearing black ski masks, but the victim, who Folger asked not be identified, recognized the voice of a woman who held a gun on her while the other suspects searched the home.

The victim had been burglarized last month, and among items stolen was a shotgun that law enforcement suspected might have been used in the robbery, but when the arrests were made, it turned out that the weapon used was a plastic training weapon made to look like an assault rifle.

The perpetrators left the scene in a blue Ford Mustang with a UK sticker in the rear window after taking the victim’s purse and checkbook.

Folger said that Tuesday afternoon he’d received a tip that the suspected getaway car was in the Stanford Walmart parking lot, and he and KSP Trooper Eric Taylor placed the vehicle under surveillance. When the suspects, Tracy McMahan, 21, and Kathy Murphy, 24, attempted to leave in their car, Folger arrested them and took them to the Sheriff’s Office for questioning. During interrogation, information was obtained that implicated Gary Griffin, 25, of Lancaster.

There were outstanding warrants on Griffin, and Folger and Thacker quickly arrested him and brought him in for questioning as well. Further questioning identified the remaining two suspects as Chad Oaks and Christopher Leek, both 25, whom Folger and Thacker arrested as well.

Murphy, Griffin, Oaks and Leek were all charged with 1st degree robbery. McMahan was charged with robbery as well and 1st degree burglary. All are currently lodged in the Lincoln County Regional Detention Center. Trooper Bobby Amons also assisted in the arrests.
