For the second time in three weeks, Nicholasville police are investigating an armed robbery at Cash Express, located at 859 N. Main St.

According to a news release from the Nicholasville Police Department, the second robbery took place Monday around 4:45 p.m. when a white male, described to be in his mid-50s, tall with a thin build, clean shaven, wearing a red hat with a black bill and black shirt, entered the business armed with a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded that the clerk give him money from the registers.

The clerk complied with the robbers demand, and the man left through the back door with an undetermined amount of cash.

The two incidents are similar, but police said it was too early to say if there is a connection.

“It’s too early to tell, but that is a possibility,” police spokesperson Officer Kevin Grimes said. “It was hit about the same time as it was the last time, right about 5 o’clock. He walked in very calmly and made his demands.”

On Aug. 26, Cash Express was robbed when a white male entered the business and demanded that all money in Cash Express be given to him. The Aug. 26 news release said the man then pointed a black semi-automatic pistol at the teller as he made his demands.

During that robbery, the suspect was described as being in his mid-50s, between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall, medium build, wearing black shorts, an olive-green button-down shirt over a black T-shirt, white socks, white tennis shoes and a green camouflage hat.

As in the first robbery, police say the man did not attempt to disclose his identity and a surveillance camera recorded the entire robbery. Stills from the video in the second robbery were made available to media outlets, and The Journal has posted the images on its website.

Anyone with information about either case is asked to call the NPD at 859-885-9467.
