Josh Settle scored 37 seconds into the match off an assist from Brian Fay for a 1-0 lead. About eight minutes later, Ben Van Nevel added to the lead with his first score of the season off an assist from Garvey.
After the Lions cut the lead in half, Garvey put hte Colonels up 3-1 with his goal at the 34:18 mark off of Robbie Tarver’s assist. Centre outshot the Lions 22-16 and had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Jackson stopped five of the six shots he faced.
Volleyball
The Colonels bounced back from a Friday loss in the Centre College Classic with wins over Maryville (Tenn.) and Fisk.
Centre beat Maryville 26-24, 15-25, 26-24, 25-23, then had a 25-7, 25-6, 24-15 win over Fisk.
Against Maryville, Rebecca Pugh led the team in kills with 15, Laura Hench had three aces and also led the team in digs with 29 and Ashton Hupman had five blocks.
Stephanie Woeste and Shelby Shelton each had seven kills in the match. Kary Stivers had seven aces and Crystal Montes, Haley Buchanan and Jenna Foushee each had four digs.
On Friday, the Colonels dropped the first match to Mount Union 25-22, 25-13, 25-10.
Woeste and Pugh each had six kills for Centre. Leading the team in assists was Hannah Greer with 17, ench had 14 digs and Catherine Janszen had two aces in the match. Pugh led the team in blocks with three.
Field Hockey
Centre 3, Hendrix 1 — At Danville, the Colonels moved to 5-0 on the season Friday with a win over Hendrix in their conference opener.
Hendrix took the lead first, scoring 22 minutes into the match.
Centre tied things up on Jessica McLean's goal right as the horn sounded to end the first half of play. Centre held a 16-3 edge in shots and a 6-3 advantage in corners in the first half.
Four minutes into the second half, Chelsea Kelin scored off a pass from McLean. It stayed that way until McLean hooked up wtih Kelin again for a goal in th 45th minute for a 3-1 lead.
Centre ended with a 27-8 shooting edge and 18-6 corner shot edge. Patty Cowley had three saves for the Colonels.
