Letter: Cemetery tour was a success

September 24, 2010

Dear Editor,

Thank you for your support for the seventh annual James Harrod Trust History Underfoot Cemetery Tour. We were very pleased with this year’s tour, which featured the talents of Doris Bartleson, Richard Stallings, Amalie Preston, Annie Denny, Gary Moore, Bartley McQueary and Louise Dean. Other volunteers, including Riley Stallings, Nancy Ross Stallings, Bonnie Moore, Phillip Crump, Pat Linton and Helen Dedman, also helped to make this event a success. We could not have done it without any of these folks.

We also are appreciative to Mayor Lonnie Campbell and the Harrodsburg City Commission for allowing us to showcase Harrodsburg’s beautiful, historic Spring Hill Cemetery.

Each year, we hear an array of comments on the beauty of the cemetery. The Harrodsburg/Mercer County Tourist Commission helps us get the word out each year by promoting the event, along with the Harrodsburg/Mercer County community, throughout the year.

Approximately 150 people attended this year’s tour. Many of them were from Harrodsburg, but we had out-of-state guests and visitors from other Kentucky communities, such as Danville and Boyle County. We were pleased to see people come out for the event and hope to see them and more next year for the eighth event, which will be Sept. 16 and 17, 2011. We are glad that we can entertain our guests while educating them on Harrodsburg’s ancestors. See you next year.
