Starry Night Studio presents ‘Single’s Night’

September 26, 2010

The Community Arts Center will present “Starry Night Studio: Single’s Night” Oct. 1. Local artists will guide attendees in a step-by-step process recreating the featured painting. At the end of the night, participants leave with their very own masterpieces, in addition to meeting new people throughout the night.

“Whether you can paint or not, you are promised a good time,” says Mary Beth Touchstone, executive director of the Community Arts Center. “The focus here is fun, with some fine art thrown in. Basically, by the end of the evening you will have created a work of art you can be proud of, and just as importantly, you’ll have created lasting memories with your friends.”

Starry Night Studio began in April with sold-out classes for works such as Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” and “Pear Still-Life.” The Community Arts Center is excited there is such a high demand in the community for this social painting experience.

The idea of Single’s Night came about through casual conversation about what there is to do in Danville on a Friday night besides dinner and a movie. The focus is to engage adult singles throughout the surrounding area, ages 18 and up, in conversation over snacks and beverages that they bring, all while they are taught to paint their own masterpiece. The friendly environment of Starry Night Studio provides a pressure-free atmosphere, allowing people to mingle as they wish.

“We want this to be like a painting ‘party,’” says Touchstone. “No room for art critics. Just relax and enjoy another opportunity provided by the Arts Center to experience art in a truly unique and fun way.”

Regular classes are open to everyone and are perfect for girls night out, date night, or even just a fun night out on the town. Classes are offered every other Tuesday on a regular basis. Private parties allow participants to pick their painting. The Community Arts Center also offers special sessions such as October’s “Single’s Night” featuring the Eric Clapton’s cover art from the album “Layla” as the subject for the evening.
