Dear Editor,
I attended the Boyle County band competition on Sept. 25, and felt the hospitality of the band boosters from my alma mater. I marched with the Rebels from 1983 to 1987, and my heart filled with excitement as the Rebels took the field. My nephew is in the Danville band now, so I cheer as heartily for the Admirals as I do the Rebels.
Danville and Boyle County should be very proud of the strong marching band traditions we have at both high schools and the work these students put into the bands.
What most excited me was the coverage of the competition in the paper. Finally, The Advocate gives attention to our local bands. Not only was there a story, but there were videos online of the local bands. Kudos to The Advocate-Messenger for covering the event, because Danville and Boyle County are more than football.
