Planners seeking public’s input on change

October 06, 2010|By Rachel Parsons

The public will have another opportunity to speak to the Winchester-Clark County Planning Commission about a proposed text amendment to the zoning ordinance in December.

Discussions of the text amendment continued at a public hearing Tuesday, revolving around suggested design guidelines. A draft of the amendment was reviewed by the Winchester Board of Commissioners in September, as well as recommendations from retired local architect Chuck Witt.

Director of Planning and Development Rhonda Cromer shared Witt’s comments with the planning commission, as well as a revised version of the text amendment that addressed Witt’s concerns.

The current version of the amendment allows the commission flexibility when discussing design standards for national chains, such as Cracker Barrel, that have a uniform look at all their locations, which may not fit the proposed design standards.

However, commissioners hope to revise the amendment further and continue discussions at a public hearing on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m., at the regularly scheduled planning commission meeting. Meetings are conducted in the fiscal courtroom.

Following the December public hearing, a revised version of the amendment will be sent to the city commission and the Clark County Fiscal Court for approval.

The amendment would apply to zones P-1, B-1 through B-4 and PD.
