Sallee is the right man for jailer

October 12, 2010

To the editor:

Jon Sallee is the father of three little girls and one on the way. He works two jobs to provide for his family. But he doesn’t go to work every day to just any job. He chooses to be a public servant, risking his life for the safety of his family and this community. Throughout his career, he has gone beyond the call of duty for proving his dedication to the people of Jessamine County and central Kentucky. These acts have been recognized 12 times nationally and locally. He is a man of courage, on the front lines every day, and he’s not afraid to protect the people.

I often think back to when I took the oath of the office of Jessamine County jailer in 1994 and the day I walked in the detention center as jailer. My first thought was, “There is a mother and father that loves everyone in here. I will respect that.”

The good book tells us that something you have never done before in life is not always easy, and great acts of courage are not acts of weakness. I believe in this generation born, not of words, but of deeds, achievements have been won to represent the past generations. Sallee represents past generations of humble and respected leaders. His high integrity through his day-to-day life, his actions as a public servant, both prove that he is the right man for the job of jailer.

During my 13 years as your jailer, 45,000 inmates went through the Jessamine County Detention Center. I took 30,000 phone calls from mothers, fathers, family members and pastors of inmates. Because of this, I believe I am in a position to ask you to join with me on Nov. 2 to vote for Jon Sallee as Jessamine County jailer.
