Danville police suspect several thefts from unlocked vehicles Sunday night in two areas of town are related.
About 12:15 a.m. Monday, officer Daniel Grigsby responded to a report of an intruder in a vehicle at 352 Timothy Ave. The caller said her husband, Josh Wilcher, saw a white male in their vehicle and gave chase on foot.
The suspect was able to elude Wilcher, who ended the chase near Mark and Timothy avenues. Wilcher described the suspect as a white male, about 6 feet tall, with facial hair and wearing a brown Carhart-type jacket. A Garmin GPS was taken from the vehicle.
While canvassing the area, Officer Grigsby found an organizer at the intersection where Wilcher had last seen the suspect. Grigsby contacted the owner of the organizer and discovered the owner’s vehicle had been rummaged through at 351 Mark Ave.
The organizer and some paperwork were the only items missing but were located and returned by Grigsby.
Three similar thefts from unlocked vehicles were reported on the east side of town:
Olivia McBee reported about 1:52 a.m. that while she was on Ridgeway Drive her purse was taken from her unlocked vehicle.
Lawrence Beavers at 1020 Plainview Drive reported a theft of a Tom Tom GPS from his unlocked vehicle at 2:14 a.m.
At 2:22 a.m., Alfazo Rodriquez at 409 Hill-n-Dale reported a Garmin GPS was taken from his unlocked vehicle.
No suspects were seen in any of the thefts on the east side of town, but police suspect they all may be related. Anyone with information is asked to call Danville Police Department at (859) 238-1224 and ask for Sgt. Todd Davis.
