The Danville boys won their third consecutive 29th District Tournament championship with a 5-1 victory over Mercer County on Friday night at Rebel Stadium.

Mercer (12-6-2) kept 15th-ranked Danville (20-3) off the board for about the first 15 minutes before the Admirals broke through.

Danville doubled its score with a penalty kick later in the first half, and Anthony Patterson put Mercer on the board by scoring just before the end of the first half.

Danville broke the game open with three second-half goals. The Admirals outshot the Titans 20-8 overall and had an 11-2 edge in shots on goal.

"They are tough, make great runs off the ball and capitalize on your mistakes" Mercer assistant coach Tim Shannon said.

Sean Nolin, Anthony Patterson and Landon Souder represented Mercer on the all-tournament team.

Both teams will advance to the 15th Region Tournament, which will be played at Somerset and also includes Lincoln County.
