CYNTHIANA — A successful run came to an end for George Rogers Clark.
The Lady Cardinals fought to the finish in a 2-0 loss to Newport Central Catholic in the semifinals of the 10th Region Volleyball Tournament Wednesday night at Harrison County.
Clark lost the first game 25-13, followed by a 25-15 setback in the second encounter.
The Thorobreds advance to tonight’s finals and will take on Highlands, which eliminated host Harrison County 25-7 and 25-15 in the first of two semifinal contests on Wednesday night.
The loss concluded a successful season for the Lady Cards, who captured their second straight district title and won their first region contest with a 2-1 triumph over Maysville Saint Patrick in the opening round Tuesday night.
“I’m proud of my girls,” Clark coach Robyn Curry said afterward. “We watched them (Tuesday night) and we know that they have played club ball for a long time and they recruit people into their school, so we knew we had a tough test ahead of us.
