Prep Football: Pulaski downs Mercer

HARRODSBURG — Mercer County took a 21-point lead over Pulaski County after the first quarter Friday, but the Maroons took over from there and downed the Titans 47-24 on senior night.

Donovan Ellis has touchdown runs of 82 and 65 yards and Alex Guay scored from a yard out on the opening drive as the Titans (3-7, 1-3 Class AAAAA, District 7) rolled up 235 yards and led 21-0 lead after the first quarter.

But from there, it was all Pulaski, as the No. 5 Maroons (8-1, 4-0) outscored Mercer 47-3 over the final three quarters.

Ellis ran 11 times for 216 yards.

Pulaski quarterback Zach Eastham threw for three touchdowns while running for two more scores. He was 18 of 29 passing for 291 yards and ran 12 times for 114 yards. Alex Abner had 98 yards rushing on 12 carries with a touchdown.

In the second quarter Abner had a 1-yard scoring run and Eastham ran one in from 5 yards out after a Mercer fumble and had a 50-yard touchdown strike to Stephen McQueen as Pulaski tied the game at 21-all heading to halftime.

J.J. Blau booted a 22-yard field goal to put Mercer up 24-21 midway through the third quarter, but McQueen hauled in touchdown catches of 24 and 33 yards from Eastham to make it 35-24.

Pulaski County rolled up 535 yards of offense, while limiting Mercer to just 91 yards of offense over the final three quarters of play.

Mercer has a week off before traveling to Harlan County for the first round of the Class AAAAA playoffs on Nov. 5.
