STANFORD — Police arrested a Moreland man early Sunday morning after he drove through the scene of a fatal accident, causing police officers and firefighters to scatter.

Charles R. Dotson, 32, faces 16 charges, including driving under the influence and nine counts of wantonly endangering police officers and firefighters, after he allegedly drove around stopped traffic, ignored police demands to stop and drove at a pair of troopers investigating the scene of a late-night fatal car crash.

Teresa Hoskins, 35, of Danville, was ejected and killed in a one-vehicle wreck on U.S. 150 near the Boyle-Lincoln county line at about 11 p.m. Saturday. The driver, Rodney Alcorn, 42, of Stanford, and Hoskins’ 4-year-old daughter were airlifted to the University of Kentucky following the accident.

About two hours after the accident occurred, Lincoln County deputies were directing traffic at the site of the accident when a vehicle “ran around several stopped cars and through the roadblock,” according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

“The operator of the vehicle disregarded Deputy Thacker’s attempts to stop him and drove directly at the troopers who were taking measurements,” a news release reads. “Both troopers dodged the vehicle as the suspect fled the scene. At least five Lincoln County Firefighters were assisting with traffic control and they too had to take evasive action to avoid being struck by the vehicle.”

After running the roadblock, Dotson allegedly rammed a deputy in a marked police car who was pursuing him. Dotson rammed the car “in an attempt to escape,” according to the news release.

Dotson’s other charges include disregarding a traffic officer’s signal, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in his vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, fleeing and evading police, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. He is currently being held in the Lincoln County Detention Center without bond.

State police are handling the investigation, but had no information available Monday afternoon.
