Local AARP chapter has September meeting

Chapter 632 AARP met Thursday, Sept. 30 at the Generations Center.

Don Rose, president, presided. He led the pledge to the flag.

Wilma Ballard gave the invocation with a moment of silence in memory of Vesteen Pasley and prayers for Clyde and Louise Kohl, who moved to Florida, and for Clyde and Evelyn Hudson. Clyde Hudson recently passed away.

Following a potluck meal, Lisa Smith spoke about Care Tenders, a nursing group that provides in-home care.

Bobbye Woodruff reported on the AARP picnic at Jacobson Park. Nineteen members of Chapter 632 attended. The band Custom Made performed.

Jim Crowell reported on decisions made at the board meeting. The October meeting will feature a silent auction and bids may be made only in dollar increments. All proceeds will go to charity.

Cathy Murphy from the state office will install the officers at the December meeting. Don Pasley and R.J. Palmer will be invited.

Don and Janet will provide the ham for the December meeting.

Gladys Hammonds will be the chairperson for game night. Julie Woosley gave the OK for a Tuesday night.

Don asked for a volunteer to coordinate visits to the sick. Colista Ledford volunteered. Her committee includes Bobbye Woodruff, Donna Patzer, Joyce Barnes, Jean Crowell, June Curtis and Linda Jordan.

Six new people joined AARP — Winford Smith, Sheila Griffitt, Linda Jordan and Joe and Gale Brown.

Forty-five members and guests were present. Bill Burton, Joe and Wilma Ballard, Garland and Geraldine Roe, Dewey and Charlotte Pasley, Audrey King, Jean Pasley, Gladys Hammonds, Roy Mills, Jim and Della Bender, Herman Cubbison, Donna Patzer, Bobbye Woodruff, Judy Bowman, Janice Thomason, Charlene Woods, Irene Lowry, Polly Todd, James and Elizabeth Gay, Winfred Smith, Velma Miller, June Curtis, Rosemary Rice, Joe and Mary Rupis, Dorothy Moberly, Clair and Arlene Hunter, Eleanor Johnston, Jim and Jean Crowell, Don and Janet Rose, Linda Jordan, Alfred and Lisa Smith, Joe and Gale Brown, Colista Ledford, Sheila Griffitt and Joyce Barnes.

The next meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 28.
