Winchester Sun's website is expanding

November 02, 2010

The Winchester Sun’s website, WinchesterSun.com is expanding. It will still have all the stories from Winchester and Clark County, but it will now also have all the news from around the world that affects the people who live here.
Schurz Communications, which owns The Winchester Sun, has entered into a partnership with The Tribune Company. Tribune owns several big newspapers and TV stations around the country including The Chicago Tribune, The LA Times, and WGN-TV. This partnership creates the largest media footprint of its kind in the world and allows for nearly 60 newspapers and television stations to share their most important stories across their websites.
“This is a major step forward is our online efforts,” said the Sun’s digital media manager, John Preston. “We’ve been the online place to go for the area’s local news for several years, and we still will be. It’s just now folks won’t have to go somewhere else for the rest of their news.”
Preston said this partnership will allow WinchesterSun.com to have sections for health, entertainment, business, finance, green living, etc.
“When we throw the switch … you’ll notice some changes immediately, but the real improvement will be in the weeks and months to come when we’re able to add much more content that impacts the lives of our readers.”
The new website went live on Monday afternoon.
Preston said there will also be more opportunity for the site to become interactive.
“You’ll not only be able to comment on the stories, but you’ll be able to comment on comments, rate the stories, add you own photos, etc. We really want to create a closer, more involved community.”
