Police are searching for a white man who robbed a Winchester Subway restaurant at gunpoint Thursday night and left three employees in the cooler.

The robbery was reported at 8:20 p.m. Thursday after the suspect had already left the restaurant, Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said.

The employees and three customers said a white man, approximately six feet tall and weighing 200 pounds, walked into the store, pulled a handgun and demanded money from the employee behind the counter, Hall said.

“When he came over the counter, he encountered two other employees and put all three in the cooler afterwards,” Hall said. The three customers were ordered to lie on the floor, and they complied, he said.

The suspect then left the store, but detectives don’t know whether he fled on foot or in a vehicle. Officers and the department’s police dog searched the area, but found no trace of the suspect, he said.
The amount of cash taken has not been determined, Hall said this morning.

The robbery is similar to a recent robbery at the Kentucky Fried Chicken on Carol Avenue, in which the employees were left in the cooler after someone walked in and demanded money.

“We can’t say it’s the same person, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility,” Hall said.
No one was injured and no one was restrained, he said.

Lexington Police are also investigating a robbery of another Subway restaurant Thursday night, Hall said.
The suspect was wearing dark clothes and a sheer mask over his face.
