Children’s book author Barbara Joosse will be at the Boyle County Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Friday to present a program, “The Reader’s Hug,” and to sign copies of her books.
Joosse has been writing for children for more than 30 years. She has published 38 books for children, both picture books and chapter books. Through her writing, she aspires to find the things that are the same, and the things that are different, between us all. Her books have been translated into 28 languages.
Joosse’s book “Mama, Do You Love Me?” sold more than 1.5 million copies and received the Golden Kite Award and California Children’s Book Award, among many others, in 1991 and 1992. “I Love You the Purplest” sold more than 400,000 copies and was on the Association of Booksellers for Children’s “Best of ’97” list. “Ghost Wings” was a Parents’ Choice 2001 Recommended Winner and was named “Best of 2001” by Parents Magazine.
“Stars in the Darkness” was a Golden Kite Honor Book for Picture Book Text, 2004, Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. It also was a Top Ten Best Illustrated Book for 2002. Many of Joosse’s other books are award winners as well.
She is married to C.T. Whitehouse, a bronze sculptor from Danville. They live in Wisconsin.
Barbara Joosse’s books can be pre-ordered at the Boyle County Public Library. Display copies are available to view at the library. All books are hardcover editions.
