He said his emotions were “indescribable” after the loss.
“We turned the ball over in critical times. They did what they had to do to beat us and found a way to win, something we couldn’t do,” the junior receiver said.
Now Cobb has a relatively quick decision to make. He’s going to have his NFL draft status evaluated and will have until Jan. 15 to decide whether to declare for the draft or come back to UK for a final season when he won’t have quarterback Mike Hartline, running back Derrick Locke or recevier Chris Matthews, all seniors, back with him on offense.
“I’ve got no timetable other than Jan. 15,” Cobb said. “There are a lot of pros and cons to weigh. A lot will have to do with my family and things coming up next year. There’s also going to be controversy in the NFL about a possible lockout.
“I have decisions to make and will have to do my homework and then hopefully make the right decisions.”
Bittersweet: Freshman tight end Tyler Robinson caught a 7-yard pass on UK’s first play, had a career-best four catches for 25 yards and caught his first touchdown pass in front of a large number of family members and friends from Alcoa, Tenn.
“Losing 26 in a row to Tennessee is pretty bad, so there’s no joy here,” Robinson said. “I always want to beat them. I have more chances, but I wanted this win.
“I really don’t remember that much about what goes on in a game about specific plays. I do know it was nice to make that first catch and score, but it’s kind of bittersweet when you lose. Individual numbers and things don’t mean much in a loss.
Numbers: Senior Derrick Locke rushed a season-high 24 times for 97 yards ... Junior linebacker Danny Trevathan recorded a team-best 10 tackles in the game, his ninth game leading UK in tackles this season. He has recorded double-digit tackles in eight consecutive games, the longest streak since Marty Moore had double-figure tackles in 13-consecutive games in 1991-92 ... Craig McIntosh missed a field goal in the first half, breaking a streak of eight consecutive field goals. The eight straight field goals were the longest streak since Taylor Begley hit a school-record nine in a row in 2005 ... Cobb’s 13 catches were the second most ever at UK behind the 16 Craig Yeast had against Vanderbilt in 1998 ... Cobb now has 1,599 career receiving yards, sixth best at Kentucky.
