Winchester officers follow snowy trail to capture burglar

December 16, 2010|By Fred Petke

Police didn’t have to call out the dogs to track a burglary suspect early this morning.
The suspect’s footprints in the snow led officers directly to his hiding place in the bushes.
At 3:44 a.m. today, officers responded to a burglar alarm at a tobacco shop at 1313 W. Lexington Ave. and found broken glass outside the business. Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said officers followed a set of footprints for approximately a half mile through the snow until they found 30-year-old Brian O. Davenport hiding in the bushes near Arlington Road.
Davenport admitted to being involved in the burglary, and had injured himself on the broken glass, Hall said. Davenport also had several cartons of stolen cigarettes on him when he was arrested. No cash was taken from the store.
Davenport, of 134 Upper St., was charged with third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools.
