Child abuse case heading to grand jury

January 03, 2011|By Fred Petke | The Winchester Sun

A Lexington man who reportedly admitted to sexually touching three young girls waived sodomy and sexual abuse charges directly to the grand jury.

Chris Riggs, 39, was arrested Dec. 14 for one count of first-degree sodomy and two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, according to court documents, after the girls’ grandmother told Detective Mark Collier at the Clark County Sheriff’s Office of the allegations.

Riggs is a relative of the girls, who were ages 12, 11 and 9 at the time of the incidents.

According to the citation, Riggs allegedly penetrated the eldest girl’s genitals with his fingers. All three girls said Riggs had touched them below the waist when they had their clothes on.

In an interview with detectives, Riggs reportedly admitted to committing the described acts. He was then arrested and jailed on a $20,000 cash bond.

On Dec. 29, Riggs and his attorney asked a district court judge to waive the preliminary hearing and send the case directly to the grand jury.
