Boyle Health Department offers kids' flu vaccinations

The Boyle County Health Department has free flu mist vaccinations available for children from 2 to 18 years old. No appointment is needed.

Health department hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Fridays.


Garrard seniors center holding portrait fundraiser

LANCASTER — The Garrard County Senior Citizens Center is selling $10 certificates for a 10- by 13-inch family or individual portrait for a fundraiser to be held March 12. Certificates may be purchased 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center, 153 Farra Drive in Lancaster, before March 1 and on Feb. 19. One certificate per family is allowed.


McDowell offers training mini-marathon training

McDowell Wellness Center is offering a mini-marathon (13.1 miles) training program, which will begin Feb. 12. The 12-week class will meet each 5:30 p.m. Thursdays  and 8:30 a.m. Saturdays.
This training program will get participants ready to run in the Derby Mini Marathon, Nashville Mini Marathon or Flying Pig Marathon in Ohio.

The cost to participate in this program is $30 for wellness center members or $40 for non-members.
A free informational session will be 6 p.m. Feb. 10 at McDowell Wellness Center. For more information or to sign up, call (859) 936-9355.


McDowell offers swimming lessons for toddlers, babies

McDowell Wellness Center is offering swimming lessons for babies and toddlers beginning March 12. Lessons are 30 minutes and will be each Saturday for six weeks. “Water Toddlers,” for two and three year olds, will be 9:45-10:15 a.m. “Water Babies,” for ages from 6 months up to 2 years, will be 9-9:30 a.m.
Classes follow the guidelines of the American Red Cross. Call the McDowell Wellness Center at (859) 936-9355 for more information or to register.
