Another day, another high-profile win for the East Jessamine boys. Tuesday night the Jaguars (17-5) defeated Woodford County (15-6) 64-60.

“We’re happy to come away with the win,” East coach Chris O’Bryan said. “It’s a good, good Woodford County team ... they’re as good as anyone we’ve faced.”

East used a huge third quarter to get the win over the Yellow Jackets, outscoring Woodford 15-5 in the period. Jordan Redd scored five points and Cameron Thomas scored six to fuel the Jags on the offensive end.

On the defensive side of the ball, East was stepping in front of passes and pressuring the ball to get turnovers.

The Jags led 44-35 heading into the fourth quarter. A three-point play by Tashan Hairston and a bucket by

Thomas to open the fourth gave East an 11-point lead with seven minutes to play.

Woodford hung around, capitalizing on Redd and Cody Collins fouling out in the final three minutes. A basket by Woodford made it a 60-55 game with 58 seconds remaining, but Dusty Webb and Michael Rexroat hit clutch free throws down the stretch to win.

Woodford had a size advantage on the Jags, but East was able to get some of Woodford’s better players in foul trouble early, sending them to the bench for significant minutes in the first half.

Redd led East with 16. Hairston had 12 points to go along with some solid defensive play at the point. Rexroat scored 11 points as he struggled to find his three-point stroke. Thomas scored 10.
