“We told them if they keep working hard like this, good things are going to happen for them,” Boyle coach Greg Edwards said. “Our effort is starting to get better.”

Boyle led 37-26 to start the fourth quarter before the Wolverines (7-16) tied it at 48 at the end of regulation. The scored was 57-all after the first overtime, then the Megilligan steal and layup broke that tie and propelled Boyle to the win.

Monticello rallied to cut the Titans’ led to 27-20 at the half, but Mercer led 41-27 after three quarters.

“I think we lost our legs a little in the second quarter and let them back in the game,” Souder said. “Then Cawood got hot in the second half, which was great to see because she’s been struggling to hit shots.”

Mercer finished 22 of 64 from the field, going 8-for-33 from 3-point range and 13 of 17 at the free throw line with 16 assists.

Friday’s Games

Casey County 46, Mercer County 42 — At Harrodsburg, the Titans trailed by as much as 15 in the first half before making it close in a loss to the visiting Rebels.

Nicole Coffman scored 12 points, Jamie Wesley added 10 and Megan Pittman had nine for Casey, which led 31-20 at the half and just 35-29 after three quarters.

“I was proud of the girls and the coaching staff,” said Souder, who was serving the last of his two-game suspension for being ejected against Lincoln County last week. “We were down 15 in the first half and cut it to 11 at halftime. Casey shot their free throws awfully well."

Savannah Taylor had 15 points and nine rebounds, Catheryne Claunch had 6 points and Cawood Dedman added four assists for the Titans, who were 14 of 39 from the field, 5 of 18 from 3-point range, and hit nine of 14 free throws.
