Leslie Winston King, a local businessman and co-owner of King Brothers Inc., departed his earthly home for his heavenly home on Feb. 12. He was loved by many friends, family and acquaintances.
He was born on Nov. 30, 1945 to Charles and Minnie Hatton King, of Winchester. He graduated from George Rogers Clark High School and attended Eastern Kentucky University. He served in the Army National Guard. He worked at I.B.M. in Lexington early in his career while also employed at King Brothers Inc., where he worked for 44 years.
Les King was preceded in death by his father, Charles King; a brother, Charles Edward King; and a sister, Patricia Lee King.
He is survived by his mother, Minnie King; his mother-in-law, Kathryn (Bill) Grayson; his wife, Linda Ransdell King; and their three children, Leslie K. King of Winchester, the Rev. William (Amy) Mefford of Jacksonville, Fla., and Leslie (Thomas) Slone of Owenton; five grandchildren, Thomas Ryan Slone and Joshua Aaron Slone of Owenton, Lance Corporal Charles Maxwell Mefford, USMC, and Kathryn Scarlet Mefford and Erin Ross Mefford of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Paul (Jennie) King, Douglas (Mary) King; two sisters, Doris Shepherd and Judy (Jerry) Riddell, all of Winchester; sister-in-law Peggy Elliott of Paris, Ky.; and brothers-in-law the Rev. David (Pat) Ransdell of Lawrenceburg and John Ransdell of Paris, Ky.
The Reverends Tom Hall, Art Beasley, David Ransdell, William Mefford and Thomas Slone will officiate at the service to be held at the Church of the Living God, 114 Franklin Ave. at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at the church.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Wells, Jerry Riddell, Joshua Slone, Ryan Slone, Eric Staton, Wayne Ritchie, Lance Corp. Max Mefford and Lloyd Stanfield.
Honorary pallbearers are nephews Doug King II and Vince and Chris King, the Blakeman Sunday school class of Central Baptist Church, Eddie Mastin, Louie Allison, the Rev. David Ransdell, John Ransdell, Thomas Slone, all of his camping buddies, J.D. Crowe, and all of his bluegrass music buddies from all over the United States, Jim and Betty Brinegar, Rod Creighton, Ron Davidson, Danny McFarland, Lynn Armstrong, Jesse Reed, Ralph Whiteman, Danny Fitzpatrick and Bob Elam.
Contributions may be given to the Hospice East, the Church of the Living God, Winchester, or the Epoch Church of Owenton.
Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery.
