Protect Social Security funding

February 16, 2011

To the Sun:

I know this letter is insignificant, but at least I get the satisfaction of being a small voice speaking for the elderly and asking for your help.

The intent of this letter is not to be harsh or bitter, but to be genuinely concerned for the lives of our elders. These are the ones who are tossed aside and forgotten.

The elderly have worked all their lives and put money into Social Security for their retirement. The downfall of Social Security is caused by the rich who are wanting to get richer. The elderly did not create this waste.

The decision-makers should have to live under their own guidelines. They are supposed to be representatives of the people. If there is a thought of cutting Social Security, then I would say they do not represent 25 percent of the people.

When the elderly get hungry or sick, what will they do?

Everyone has an elderly father, mother, grandfather or grandmother. Does anyone care?

It is a disgrace the way our elderly people are treated. In other cultures, the elderly are cared for and respected.

All of us one day will stand before a righteous and just God and answer individually for our actions.
