Jailer Jon Sallee said an automated program soon to be in place would aid in scheduling visitations with inmates in the jail and relieve the visitation bottleneck that occurs on the weekends.
The county is purchasing new software that will allow friends and family of inmates to call an “800” number and make an appointment, much like they would when making an appointment to see their doctor.
The detention center will establish visitation times for the new program. For example, jail officials could designate visitation times to be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. seven days a week and give the system to set 15-minute appointments. Sallee said it would be set up to limit family and friends to two 15-minute visits per week.
“I’m going to try to start the first of April,” Sallee said. “It relieves the (bottleneck) on the weekends. We won’t have a parking lot full of people on the weekends and fights and everything else on the weekend and all of those problems on the weekend. It spreads the visitations out.”
