Solid waste to accept old tires

Boyle County Department of Solid Waste Management will accept tires 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Perryville Convenience Center. Registration is required, and only Boyle County residents may participate — tires from businesses will not be accepted.  Proof of residency will be requested. Residents must call (859) 238-1116 after 5 p.m. and leave name, telephone number and the amount of tires. Only those who have registered will be accepted.

Sky Watch: Mercury, near Jupiter, has the best evening apparition of 2011, starting today, 40 minutes after sunset; it’s best seen at midmonth, when it hovers just to the right of Jupiter.

Extension office offers class

The Boyle County Extension Service will offer a class 5:30 p.m. Thursday about saving money on medical bills with Vicki Carlyle.
Participants must register by Tuesday by calling (859) 236-4484.

Zumba in Garrard

LANCASTER — A Zumbafest is planned for  12:30 p.m. Saturday at Camp Dick Robinson Elementary School.
Participants should plan on an afternoon of dancing and having fun at Zumbafest, celebrating the one year anniversary of Zumba in Lancaster-Garrard County.

Free tax return help offered

LANCASTER — Residents in Garrard County whose household income is less than $49,000 may qualify for free tax return preparation. For more information, call (859) 236-4473.  Spanish translators available.
The event is sponsored by Farmers National Bank, The Salvation Army, United Way, Kentucky Domestic Violence Association and PBK Bank.

Learn how to freeze meals

The Boyle County Extension Service will hold an event 10 a.m.-noon Thursday at the office, 99 Corporate Drive, Danville,  teaching participants how to cut down on grocery expenses as well as cutting down on preparation time to cook family meals. Working moms will learn how to freeze meals to easily prepared by the family. Participants must register by Tuesday by calling (859) 236-4484.

Special cards for special people event

The Boyle County Extension Service is planning a Special Cards for Special People event 10 a.m.-noon March 26 for parents and children at the extension office, 99 Corporate Drive in Danville. Registration is required by March 18 by calling (859) 236-4484. The cost is $15 for one parent and one child and $3 for each additional child and includes all supplies to make great cards and beautiful fun picture frames.

Meetings

Masonic District 21 — 6 p.m. Saturday at The Franklin Lodge, 400 N. Fourth St., Danville. All members, of lodges in Garrard, Lincoln, Casey, Mercer and Boyle counties are welcome to attend with a guest.
A meal will be served at 5 p.m., and the meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Meal will be served at 5 p.m. Grand Master Donald H. Yankey and other state leaders will attend, and answer questions and make a presentation of special acknowledgment and awards.
