Obituary: Irene Sleet

PERRYVILLE — Irene Thompson Sleet, 95, of Perryville, died Saturday in Danville. She was the widow of Edward Briscoe Sleet Sr.
Born Sept. 1, 1915, in Riley, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Charles Henry and Mary Hattie Smith Thompson.
Irene retired from the Boyle County school system where she worked as a cook at Perryville Elementary School. She was best known for her no-bake cookies and yeast bread. She was named a Kentucky Colonel in September 2003. Irene was a member of Star Bethel Apostolic Church where she was active with the Missionary Society and sang in the adult choir.
Left to cherish loving memories are her children, Lyda Smalley, Mary Sleet, Ed (Beverly) Sleet, Liz (Ellison) Meaux and Ethyle Sleet; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a stepson, Robert Sleet.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Perryville, by Elder Michael J. Johnson Sr. and presiding pastor, Gerry Hearn. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery, Perryville.
Visiting hours will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers and great-grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.
Wilder Funeral Home, Perryville, is in charge of arrangements.
