Collis Duane “Tucker” Baxter, 76, of Danville, died Saturday, April 23, 2011, at UK Medical Center.
Born June 28, 1934, in Washington County, he was a son of the late Homer Francis Baxter and Emma Drury Sanford. He was a member of Bohan Christian Church, served 21 years in the United States Army and retired as chief warrant officer II, and then spent 20 years at Montgomery Gulf on Main Street.
Duane was predeceased by his wife, Patsy Joan Dismuke Baxter, and his son, Clayton Lynn Baxter.
Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Ann (Johnny) Grubbs of Garrard County and Sherry Lee (Arnold Wayne) Carter of Mercer County; a son, Audie Duane (Tammy) Baxter of Danville; daughter-in-law, Brenda Lewis Baxter of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren, Michael Duane Rauenzahn of Danville, Shane Clayton Baxter of Mercer County and Ashley Hannah Baxter of Danville; a great-granddaughter, Taryn Bayli Rauenzahn; a special friend, Laverne Klisz of Danville; three sisters, Geraldine Peyton of Lawrenceburg, Carol Ann Pinkston of Willisburg and Ida Rose Bottoms of Bardstown; and four brothers, Billy Sanford of Bohan, Darrell Sanford of Nicholasville, Garey Sanford of Harrodsburg and Harold Sanford of Dallas, Texas.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home with the Rev. Odis Clark officiating. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery with military rites by the United States Army and Caswell Saufley Post 18 of the American Legion.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
