Correction
An article in Tuesday’s edition of the Sun stated that the city of Winchester bid on a horse painted by Holly VanMeter at an auction in December. It was actually the Tourism Commission that tried to purchase the horse, not the city.
Sarah Healy won the horse at the auction, paying $10,000, and donated it to the city.
Clothing being collected for tornado victims
Former Winchester resident Kate Baker is collecting clothing for families affected by the recent tornado in Alabama. The clothing will go to students at Harvest Elementary School in Harvest, Ala.
Sizes for children in kindergarten through sixth grade are needed. Personal care items, such as toothpaste, toothbrushes and shampoo, also will be accepted.
Donations can be dropped off at Angie’s Hair Salon on Boone Avenue. The first shipment will leave on Friday.
Human Service Council meets May 17
The Clark County Human Service Council will meet May 17 at noon in the meeting room at Arby’s.
Representatives of all human service agencies serving Clark County are invited to attend.
GTE/Sylvania/Osram UAW retirees lunch
Winchester GTE/Sylvania/Osram/UAW retirees will meet 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 10, at the Union Hall, then travel to Irvine for lunch at Cedar Village. All Sylvania retirees and former employees are welcome to attend.
